Oil in the shop Empty Oil in the shop

Re: Oil. We have two types of engine oil (at least), chain saw bar oil, and who knows what else? Are they each for specific uses, or just happen to be what we have? If the former, then labeled dispensers indicating use (eg ‘chain oil’) would be really helpful.

OK, so far no one has replied to this, and I am still wondering what it is we should be doing. Turns out the whole question of chain oil seems to be as contentious as Middle East politics, but at least this much I have learned, Oils NOT to use on chains:


  • Automotive motor oil
    "Household" oil,
    WD-40
